Chuacruz is a small, rural village located in the highlands of the Sololá department in Guatemala, near the town of Santa Lucía Utatlán. It is primarily inhabited by Kʼicheʼ Maya people, who maintain strong indigenous traditions, including language, dress, and communal governance.
The village is situated in a mountainous area with a cool climate and is largely dependent on subsistence agriculture, growing crops like corn, beans, and potatoes. Chuacruz is also known for its involvement in community-led development projects, including efforts to improve education, healthcare access, and environmental sustainability.
Though lesser-known than more prominent towns in the region, Chuacruz offers a glimpse into traditional Maya life and the resilience of rural Guatemalan communities working to preserve their culture while pursuing social and economic progress.
