"Embroidered designs of birds in geometric patterns that represent the nature of Guatemala and its traditional customs."

This work of art was designed and hand-stitched by Ana María Quexel Gonzalez, member of the Sumpango embroidery group.

The beautiful embroidery is of whimsical hummingbirds with branches and leaves. There is a variety of stitches in greens, blues, mauve and more on an indigo fabric. The rectangular shape is a good lumbar pillow. Beautiful on the couch or the bed.

Materials

The pillow cloth is handwoven traditional recycled indigo fabric (corte) with subtle blue stripes. The embroidery is done with a variety of threads and stitches. There is a hidden zipper on the back side allowing for easy washing. Pillow insert is not included.

Ana María Quexel González

Her favorite aspects of being an artist at Multicolores involves drawing and narrating the stories of her creations, as well as combining colors.

She draws inspiration from her traditional costume and nature to extract designs and portray them in her embroideries.

At the beginning of her journey with Multicolores, she struggled to grasp the technique, but now she takes pride in the progress she has made and the new knowledge she acquires every day.

“For me, Multicolores represents strength, understanding, and support. It has helped me support my family, allowed me to work more, and provided training in drawing and color combinations.”
