This work of art was designed and crafted by Irma Elizabeth de Léon Vargas de Sazo member of the Patanatic rug hooking group. This piece is unique and the design is the result of the artist creative vision.

The geometry reference the huipil from Chichicastenango, It’s multicolored because of the different outfits that Mayan women wear. This larger size works well in many locations in the home such as by the bed, by the couch, in front of the kitchen sink, and also works as a wall hanging.

Irma Elizabeth de Léon Vargas de Sazo

Her favorite parts of being an artist at Multicolores are combining colors and then embroidering with the crochet stitch. She enjoys this process because she can see how her work is progressing.

She gets her inspiration from nature, belts, “Güipiles” (traditional blouses), and traditional balls. Her design principles focus on showcasing her country.

Irma feels proud of being independent, having continued her studies, and supporting her family with the income she earns from the crochet technique rugs she creates.

“For me, Multicolores represents a lot of inspiration, continuous progress, hope, and growth, as we have experienced growth.”
