"A Different Woman"

Art of being: A self portrait in Embroidery

By Flora Tejaxún Chuy

With my portrait, I want to send a message to all women who, at some point, feel that they don’t fit into society: You are not alone, you will move forward.

I see myself as a different, unique woman, like a wildflower that grows freely in the field. When I look at myself, I perceive joy, engagement in my community, and pride in the life I am building. The colors and shapes in my portrait reflect my authenticity, as well as my singular way of creating and reimagining the world around me
