"Absolute Compassion"
Art of being: A self portrait in Rug hooking
By Imelda Estela Pich Chopén
The main inspiration for my portrait is the dragonfly, a creature that, to me, symbolizes a shift in perspective and emotional maturity. In the process of creating my portrait, these two aspects became guides for exploring an essential question: Who am I?
I realized that to answer it, I needed to transform the way I approached self-knowledge. I once saw it as something distant, almost abstract; now I understand it as a vital act, because we cannot live a full life without connecting with ourselves.
Getting to know myself deeply—with my light and my shadow, my virtues and my flaws—has been an exercise in honesty and acceptance. This encounter with myself led me to an emotional maturity I had not known before and allowed me to attend to my emotions from a place of compassion and balance.
The dragonfly, with its agile flight and ability to move in all directions, reminds me that life becomes richer when we learn to shift our perspective and move confidently toward our truth.
