"When the Wings Are Ready"
Art of being: A self portrait in Rug Hooking
By Juana Calel Yax de González
My portrait represents the importance of patience in reaching what we desire. The flowers surrounding me symbolize the cycles of nature: they need time to grow and bloom.
In the same way, we as human beings go through stages. Sometimes we want to rush and grow immediately, but it is essential to live each moment without haste and trust that everything happens at the right time.
Learning from the wisdom of nature has taught me to be more compassionate and patient with myself, and not to rush my healing process. The birds that appear in my work represent that moment when you are ready to take flight, after a long period of struggle and perseverance.
Trust yourself: everything unfolds when it is meant to be.
