"Living in the Moment"

Art of being: A self portrait in Embroidery

By Juana Ajcot Chavajay

In my piece, I wanted to reflect an essential characteristic of nature: impermanence. In life, nothing lasts forever; everything changes, and everything passes. As I embroidered this piece, I went through many experiences, leaving traces of different emotions on each section of fabric.

This journey has taught me that truly knowing myself means moving through different stages and emotional states and realizing that the present is the only place where I can fully live. My piece is an invitation to inhabit the now, to embrace what brings joy and peace. For me, this is the true freedom that comes from self-knowledge: knowing that I can choose how to live each moment.

"My piece is an invitation to inhabit the now, to embrace what brings joy and peace."
