"Joy, Peace, and Tranquility"

Art of being: A self portrait in Embroidery

By Marta Sulema Elizabet Socón Sacuj de Solís

In my portrait, I am shown wearing my huipil, a garment that goes beyond the material to represent my essence. Every thread, every design speaks to who I am: my joy, creativity, strength, and vitality. The colors I chose for my face—green and blue—reflect the energies that guide me: green symbolizes hope, growth, and connection with nature, while blue conveys balance, serenity, and inner clarity. Through my huipil and its colors, I reveal not only my identity but also my inner world, a space full of life, harmony, and possibilities.

"Every thread, every design speaks to who I am: my joy, creativity, strength, and vitality."
