Art of being: A self portrait in Rug Hooking
By Hilda Raquel García Tzunún de Tumax
Life has brought me many lessons, and one of the most precious is inner freedom.
When I began my journey of self-discovery, I came to understand that my thoughts have a profound effect on my peace. That is why I now choose to keep only what makes me feel worthy and courageous.
The hummingbirds in my portrait embody that inner freedom no one can take away. Today, I recognize myself as free—not because everything is perfect, but because I no longer live tethered to the need to please or to the fears that once confined me. I have learned to fly light, like the hummingbird, carrying only what is essential in my heart, with the certainty that true freedom begins within.
